I think I must forward this article to a friend of mine, because I happen to know that her husband is having an affair with his secretary but I can't tell her about it. On the other hand, I feel very sorry for her but I know that there are feng shui rituals that could help her save her marriage, even though I myself can do nothing.

According to your article, there are two types of 'separations' - temporary and karmic. If a separation is karmic, nothing you do can bring your loved one back.

The question for me is, how do you know when a separation is karmic or not? I would be very grateful if you could provide me with the answer. And as mentioned, I will forward the article to my friend as soon as I receive your answer.

By the way, I'd like to say a big 'thank you' to your entire World of Feng Shui team for your suggestion last year. You know, my advice is for you to not do anything about your friend's situation. It is not your business and she will not thank you, honestly. When it comes to knowing about a friend's unfaithful husband, the best thing to do is to ignore it and NOT be the one to tell her. Also please keep it to yourself!

In this case, whether or not the situation is long-lasting only time will tell. But ALL that happens in our life is karmic. And even when infidelity is karmic, you can still remedy the relationship by doing purification prayers and rituals.

But that is outside the scope of feng shui. All I can advise here is that you buy her a beautiful Double Happiness symbol of a Dragon and Phoenix symbol, as this can often help to bring a married couple closer.

I am a Snake, born in 1977, and my husband is a Boar, born in 1971.
We have three kids - two sons born in 1997 and 2001, and a girl born in 2003.

My house is facing West, the living room is in the Southeast and my eldest boy's room is in the Southwest. My younger boy's and girl's rooms are in the East, while our room (the master bedroom) is in the North and North-west.

My garage, however, is in the North - just one wall away from my bedroom, and in the bedroom is a door that leads out onto the deck.

I really, really sympathise with you because you and your husband are not just in conflict in terms of animal signs, but the elements of your charts also do not work in your favour. It is really sad when the incompatibility is so bad that one party falls out of love with the other.

My advice is, of course, as old as the hills and something you already know, in that, you have to think of your children. You must work this problem out.

Your bedroom favours your husband and is not good for you, but since he is the husband, I would advise you to let that particular situation be.

If you really want things to improve between you and your husband, you need to use a 'bridge' and in your case, it is provided by the wood element. Your husband is water, which will enhance the wood element, which, in turn enhances you. So introduce plants into your living room, and have green and brown colours in the bedroom. This will soften the atmosphere between you and your husband, and is sure to improve things.

I read an article in this year’s January/February issue concerning the position of flying stars in 2008, and I now write to seek your advice on the following.

My upstairs bathroom/toilet, that is in frequent use, is located in the South sector of the house, which is five yellow, three killings and the natural disaster star sector. What remedy can I implement so that I can still use this bathroom without activating the above mentioned disaster stars?

Dear Tan,
You are so lucky that the bathroom is in the South. This indicates that most of the time, the afflictions are symbolically ‘locked up’ inside the bathroom. I wouldn’t worry too much, but it is a good idea to place metal wind chimes inside the bathroom.

Do not place the celestial guardians inside the toilet, as this is inauspicious.
