I recently attended your Feng Shui Extravaganza 2008 in Singapore and it was my first time at such an event. Your talk was so interesting and informative. Thank you very much for sharing your knowledge with us.

I have some concerns for which I need your advice. The following is the general layout of my house: the front door faces the Northeast; the children's bedroom is in the South (5 yellow); the dining room and part of the living room are in the Northwest (illness star); the living room is in the West (quarrelsome 3); the master bedroom is in the East; the kitchen is in the Northeast; and the altar and study rooms are in the Southwest.

The layout of my house looks bad for the year 2008. I am very worried. What must I do to ensure that my family and I have a smooth year in terms of our health, careers and studies?

My husband and I were born in the year of the Dog (1970). My daughter is in primary school and was born in the year of the Snake (2001). My son is a preschooler and was born an the year of the Horse (2002). My husband is an telecommunications and I work for a bank.

Well if you were at my Extravaganza, you would have heard me say that when you know feng shui and apply all the cures and remedies diligently, you need not fear the afflictions of the year. Every year, there are afflictions and these affect different people in different years.

In your case, all you need is to place the Five Element Pagoda in the Northeast because it is hurt by the five yellow. Place metal energy there to suppress the bad luck star. If possible, build another door if you can. If you cannot, then open and close your main door gently each time you use it. Place the wu lou in your dining room and make sure everyone sits facing their good health direction (get the details from my book Basic Feng Shui or from the Fortune and Feng Shui book for 2008). You can also get my kit, called 'Tap Your Lucky Direction', as this will tell you how every member of your family can capture their good health direction.

But it is your husband who must take care of his health the most, so do wear my Medicine Buddha mantra bracelet as this will be excellent for protecting him from illness and accidents.

Your master bedroom in the East is excellent in 2008, so make the most of it. Get the Dragon gate water feature and place it in the Northeast sector of the house. This is for your kids to help them study earnestly and get good results.

I am an avid reader of your feng shui books and have been buying them for the past four years. This is however, my first year reading the directions of my apartment using a compass.

I moved into a rented apartment last year. Throughout the last two years, I have been trying to get promoted, but with no luck. The next promotion announcement date is the end of this month and I am very keen to determine if there is something I can do to change my luck.

My rented apartment sits facing Southwest 2 and the toilet is in the West. The kitchen is in the Southwest corner of the house and the master bedroom is in the Northwest.

I was born in the year of the Rooster and, according to your books, am a 'Female metal rooster'. The book also says that the best remedy for an afflicted Rooster corner in 2008 is wood or earth energy.

What does that mean and what should I use as a remedy for my situation, since I am not able to move out of my apartment anytime soon? Please help.

The year 2008 is not terribly auspicious for the Rooster, as we tend to be very irritable and have a short fuse. We with lose our temper easily (yours truly is also a Rooster). But here's a tip that is sure to help you get ahead in your career. Invite the Nine dragons!

Yes, get the Nine dragon screen in gold if you can afford it. If not, then go and get yourself Nine dragons and one big Rooster and place them together. This is sure to help you, as it is harnessing the powerful aura of the Dragon, your secret friend.

And also, make sure you get at Least one of my powerful Nine dragons crimson or gold wallet. This is to help you attract prosperity luck in 2008.

My husband and I live in our beautiful new two- storey home 'halfway up the mountain' on Deer Creek in Nevada City, California, USA. My husband is a gifted stone mason, who has been in business for many years, while I have been skipping around jobs and professions. I was most recently a realtor.

I've been studying feng shui for a few years now and I love your books, and want to incorporate my newfound knowledge into my professional life as well.

My problem is this: it's the first quarter of 2008, and all of a sudden, neither of us have any clients and we now find ourselves in danger of losing our home.

Our house has a side door to the South and main door to the West (facing the creek). I've quit using the Southern door and blocked energy escaping out of the back door to the North with a beautiful screen. I've also put coins on the inside of the Western entrance and have generally rearranged my interior decor, including hanging meaningful calligraphy in all of my power spots.

My husband is so stressed out that he sleeps on the sofa downstairs, because his back is bothering him. Our bedroom is in the Northwest, upstairs. My office is also on the second floor, in the Southwest; while my husband's is downstairs, in the Northwest.

I feel that we have lost control of our lives somehow. What can be done? My birthday is Feb 21, 1962, my husband's is March 10, 1960.

Please help us.

Oh, oh… the South is so terribly afflicted, and it seems you are already feeling the ill effects.

Actually, what you need to do is get the January issue of my Feng Shui World Magazine. Pay close attention to the main feng shui feature, which contains a 2008 chart which provides pointers on what cures to place where.

Above all, do not panic. You must get a wu lou and put lots of metal energy in the Northwest, otherwise, your husband will succumb to illness. And as for your Southwest office, place a Blue Rhino in there as well as a water feature, that should help you. And do make sure you are both sitting and sleeping according to your good directions. Use the compass you have just bought - it's vital!
